Stow Almshouse Charity – trustee vacancy

Do you want to give back to our community?

Would you consider becoming a Trustee of our Charity?

The Charity provides six one bed homes in Church Walk, built in the mid-19th century, for eligible single residents from Stow-on-the-Wold, Maugersbury or Donnington.  Our almshouses need regular maintenance and repair to provide warm and safe homes and to comply with legal requirements.

The Charity is seeking a new trustee who will take responsibility for overseeing day to day maintenance of the six almshouses. You will work closely with the Contact Trustee, who is responsible for liaison with the residents, and with a local retired builder who is not a trustee but offers an independent assessment as to whether work has been completed satisfactorily and payment can be made.

The Maintenance Trustee will draft tender documents and obtain three quotations for contractors for all approved works, requiring that work and materials to be of a high standard. For larger jobs, a professional advisor can be appointed if the Maintenance trustee feels that this is necessary. Following the completion of works and inspection by our independent retired builder, the Maintenance trustee will ensure that any snagging issues are remedied promptly.
